Our main role is to help raise standards of achievement at the school through close liaison with Mrs Flinn and staff. We make decisions important for the school, plan all aspects of its development and monitor and evaluate its progress.
Together with Mrs Flinn, we are responsible for making sure our school provides good quality education in a happy, safe and inclusive environment.
We support and challenge the headteacher, drawing on our knowledge and experience but respecting the position of the headteacher as the professional leader of the school (governors are sometimes called ‘critical friends’).
We make decisions together on matters such as performance, targets, school policies and school development plans. Each year we also set our own targets, to ensure that we are always pushing our own performance and standards of good governance.
We monitor the impact of policies and oversee school budgets and staffing.
There are three committees that support the work of the governing body:
– Teaching, Learning and Pupil Welfare (Chair – Karen Hand)
– Personnel and Pay (Chair – Robert Weiner)
– Finance, Resources and Premises (Chair – Matt Berger)
All governors are expected to sit on at least one committee and the Chair and the Head sit on all three. The terms of reference of each of the committees are annexed.
