At Moss Hall Junior School, all children learn French in weekly lessons.
The main objective of teaching a Foreign Language in primary school is to promote the early development of a child’s linguistic competence. We focus on enabling children to make substantial progress in one language. We also want to foster an interest in learning other languages, developing children’s curiosity and understanding of the world.
The teaching of Languages should enable pupils to understand and communicate ideas, facts and feelings in speech and writing, focused on familiar and routine matters, using their knowledge of phonology, grammatical structures and vocabulary.
The focus of study in Languages is on practical communication. Teaching provides a balance of spoken and written language and lays the foundation for learning other languages at Key Stage 3.
